Patriots’ latest loss shows recent offensive surge was just a fluke

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:32:02 GMT

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Patriots’ brief offensive revitalization was fun while it lasted. It also wasn’t real. After last week’s win over the Bills, we asked where that team came from. It was apparent where the team that lost 31-17 to the Dolphins was hiding. This was the same team that struggled over and over again through the first six weeks of the season. The Patriots struggled to move the ball in Sunday’s loss in Hard Rock Stadium, gaining just 218 total yards on 51 plays, and so many of the issues that plagued them in blowout losses earlier in the season tormented them once more in Week 8.Related ArticlesNew England Patriots | Mac Jones, Patriots can’t keep up with Dolphins in 31-17 Week 8 loss New England Patriots | Patriots quickly rule out Kendrick Bourne with knee injury vs. Dolphins New England Patriots | Patriots lose starting wide receiver to head injury in Week 8 vs. Dolphins New England...

No new tents, Wu says ahead of Mass and Cass enforcement push

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:32:02 GMT

Boston is ready to work with the people currently living at the corner of Mass and Cass when an ordinance banning camping there goes into effect, but the tents will come down, the city’s mayor reiterated this weekend.Residents there now have been notified of the new rule in several languages, according to the Mayor Michelle Wu. Any newcomers will be met by a coordinated team of social workers and law enforcement who will inform them new tents “won’t be able to go up.”“And if it is up, it will be asked to be taken down,” Wu told WCVB.The tent and tarp shelters now set at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard, also known as Methadone Mile, will be struck starting November 1, when an amended version of Wu’s anti-camping ordinance takes effect. The plan is not to leave the dozens of people living there now, many of whom are struggling with drug or alcohol addictions or mental health conditions, with nowhere to go, Wu said. Sweet 16: No joy in Everett

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:32:02 GMT

As soon as the pairings came out, there was one glaring omission. In Div. 1, Everett found itself on the outside looking in despite a 7-1 record. The biggest problem was that the Crimson Tide were victimized by being in the Greater Boston League, where many of the teams are in lower divisions and struggled with losing records. Four of the wins came against Revere, Lynn English, Malden and Somerville, who have a combined 6-26 record and were the last four teams in the Div. 3 power rankings.“I don’t want to speak too much today other than I feel really badly for the seniors,” first-year Everett coach Justin Flores said. “We were one of the best teams in the state (ranked eighth by the Boston Herald), we played two teams in the Catholic Conference, beat one of them (BC High) and lost a tough game against the other one (Xaverian) who is the second seed.“We can not control our league situation. But we are going to have to find a way to operate around this with the schedule. With the...

Kirk Cousins, Matthew Stafford, Kenny Pickett and Tyrod Taylor were the latest quarterbacks to go down with injuries.Cousins’ injury is likely the worst of the bunch. Minnesota Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said the team fears the four-time Pro Bowl QB hurt his Achilles tendon — and if the tendon is torn, Cousins’ season would be over. The 35-year-old veteran, who has never missed a game to injury, limped to the sideline after suffering the non-contact injury in the fourth quarter of a 24-10 win at Green Bay on Sunday.Stafford couldn’t finish a lopsided loss at Dallas because of a thumb injury. He also bloodied his elbow catching a 2-point conversion in the Rams’ 43-20 loss to the Cowboys.Pickett and Taylor both injured ribs.Pickett left Pittsburgh’s game in the first half after taking a hard shot from Jaguars defensive end Adam Gotsis. DETROIT (AP) — The United Auto Workers union has widened its strike against General Motors, the lone holdout among the three Detroit automakers, after reaching a tentative contract agreement with Jeep maker Stellantis. The escalated walkout began Saturday evening at a Spring Hill, Tennessee plant, GM's largest in North America, just hours after the Stellantic deal was reached. Its nearly 4,000 workers join about 18,000 already striking at GM factories in Texas, Michigan and Missouri and Tennessee. The UAW did not immediately explain what prompted the new action after 44 days of targeted strikes. The added pressure on GM is substantial as Spring Hill makes engines for vehicles assembled in a total of nine plants as far afield as Mexico, including Silverado and Sierra pickups. One plant already on strike it supplies with engines, in Arlington Texas, makes full-size SUVs including the Tahoe and Suburban. Vikings lose QB Kirk Cousins to significant injury in win over Packers

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:32:02 GMT

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Everything was going right for the Vikings. After proving themselves against the San Francisco 49ers in primetime, the Vikings were well on their way to earning an impressive win over the rival Green Bay Packers. It all came crashing down the moment star quarterback Kirk Cousins left the game with what appeared to be a significant injury. He pulled up lame on a drop back late the game and went down for a sack. He couldn’t put any weight on his right foot as he hopped off the field, and ultimately had to be carted to the locker room.Needless to say, the Vikings weren’t feeling too good after their 24-10 win over the Packers on Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field.Though the Vikings are now 4-4 — and right back in the NFC North race — it seems as if they could be without Cousins for the foreseeable future. The next man up if that’s indeed the case is rookie quarterback Jaren Hall. He made his NFL debut in relief and finished the game under center. That pu...

St. Louis CITY SC begins a three-game playoff series with Sporting Kansas City on Sunday. For St. Louis, it's not only a highly anticipated playoff run in its inaugural MLS season, but also another chapter in a rich history between STL and Kansas City sports. Heading into the game, these are other intriguing sports connections from the titans of western and eastern Missouri athletics:Cardinals-RoyalsSince the late 1990s, Major League Baseball has provided a yearly installment of the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals through Interleague Play. The Cardinals have largely dominated the regular-season series record of 78-53, good for a .595 winning percentage. Kansas City, however, does have bragging rights with the 1985 World Series title, even if it came on the heels of a controversial call from umpire Don Denkinger. The Royals p...
